Utility patents: is granted to anyone who invents or discovers any new and useful
machine, article of manufacture, processes (Methods), compositions such as chemicals, drugs etc., and improvements of known devices or new uses of old devices. The patent term is 20 years.
Design patents: is granted to anyone who invents a new, original, and ornamental design
for an article of manufacture. Term is 14 years.
Plant patents: may be granted to anyone who invents or discovers and asexually
reproduces (by means other than seeds) any distinct and new variety of plants. Term is 20 years.
